The name of the book al-Lumma' may be familiar to students, because the book is taught and discussed in several Islamic boarding schools, including the Maslakul Huda Kajen Pati Islamic Boarding School.

The book Al-Bayan Al-Mulamma' 'An Alfadz Al-Lumma' is a ta'liq (footnote) from the book Al-Lumma' written by Sheikh Abi Ishaq al-Syairazy.

In his introduction, Shaykh Abi Ishaq al-Syairazy (W. 476 H) stated that the book al-Lumma' appeared because of a request from his friends to write a concise book of Ushul Fiqh which was based on the book entitled Al-Tabshirah fi Ushul Fiqh min Ilm Khilaf , until finally he wanted and was given the name al-Lumma'.

Al-Lumma' itself is compiled with 229 chapters starting with Bab fi bayan al-Ilm wa al-Dzann and ending with Bab al-Qawl fi Ijtihad Rasulillah SAW, a fantastic number for a chapter in a book. However, don't be lulled by numbers, because even though this book is compiled with 229 chapters per chapter, the discussion is written concisely and concisely.

The book Al-Bayan Al-Mulamma' 'An Alfadz Al-Lumma' was written by KH. Sahal Mahfudz. While studying at Pondok Sarang, he was asked by his friends to teach the book al-Lumma' by Sheikh Abi Ishaq al-Syairazy.

Due to his high enthusiasm for learning, he finally wrote a footnote (ta'liqan) on the book Al-Lumma' which was named Al-Bayan Al-Mulamma' 'An Alfadz Al-Lumma'. This note refers to the ta'liqan Al-Lumma' by Sheikh Yasin bin Isa al-Fadany entitled Bghyatul Musytaq and also other Hasyiyah books.

He finished writing the book Al-Bayan Al-Mulamma' 'An Alfadz Al-Lumma' at the same time as completing the recitation of the book at Jumadil Ulam in 1381 H.

After finishing studying at Pondok Sarang, Kiai Sahal taught the revised book Al-Bayan Al-Mulamma' 'An Alfadz Al-Lumma' to his students at the Maslakul Huda Kajen Pati Islamic Boarding School and finished it in Rabiulawal 1418 AH or August 1996 AD.

I narrated the book al-Lumma' in Ijazah from: Shaykh Yasin bin Isa al-Fadany, from Shaykh Muhammad Aly bin Husayn al-Maliky al-Makky, from al-Sayyid Abi Bakr Syatha, from al-Sayyid Ahmad Zayni Dahlan, from Shaykh Uthman al-Dimyathi, from Shaykh Umar bin Aly al-Syanwany from Isa bin Ahmad al-Barawy, from Ahmad al-Dafry, from Salim bin Abdullah al-Basry, from Abullah al-Basry, from Shaykh Mansur al-Thukhy, from Shaykh Sulthan al-Mizahy, from al-Nur Aly Syibramalisy, from Shaykh Ibn Hajar al-Haytamy, from Shaikh Zakariyya al-Anshary, from Shaykh Izzuddin Abdurrahim al-Furat, from Aby al-Faraj al-Sakinah, from Muhammad bin Umar al- Armawy, from Muallif Syaikh Aby Ishaq al-Syirazy.
