The novel describes the invading aliens (Martians) on Earth. The plot of the novel was prompted by the brother of the writer - and it is dedicated to "War of the Worlds."

The narrative is first person unnamed protagonist, a resident of Victorian England in the beginning of XX-th century. Events unfolding in and around London: in Surrey towns Horseli, Woking. It all starts to increase public interest in Mars. A few years before the event, astronomers have registered on the surface of Mars, a strong flash. The protagonist visits an observatory and observing celestial bodies approaching from Mars. Next, many observers note in England drop of heavenly bodies on the surface of the Earth, which most take for meteorites ...
