The project Instructions for Use 4.0

The requirements for instructions for use are diverse: First and foremost, they must be correct, up-to-date and understandable. Furthermore, they should also be accessible, clear and usable anytime and anywhere.

Instructions for use 4.0. offers a convincing approach to combine all these points. The electronic version of the instructions for use ensures that it is up-to-date and quickly available. The current, correct instructions for use are made available by the pharmaceutical companies.

In addition, the user-friendly presentation meets the wishes of many patients for easy availability and easy retrieval of information.

The current focus is on instructions for use of prescription drugs.

In accordance with legal requirements, the paper version, the so-called "package insert", will continue to be included in the drug pack.

By simply scanning a code on the drug package or by entering the drug name, the latest, officially released information on a prescribed drug can be called up in a user-friendly electronic form.

GI 4.0® is being developed with the participation of patient organizations, health authorities and pharmacies in a consortium with drug manufacturers through the associations vfa, BPI and Rote Liste Service GmbH with the aim of replacing the current paper version of the medicinal product information sheet with the electronic version in the future.

What can I currently expect from Package Leaflet 4.0?

• Transparency and credibility as well as freedom from advertising

• Limits: Currently, a double-digit number of pharmaceutical companies (some with subsidiaries) are involved with a large part of their information leaflets for prescription drugs. This offer will constantly increase.

The contents of the instructions for use are obtained from the central GI 4.0® system (server) over the Internet. Therefore, the right to exchange data over the Internet is a prerequisite for using the app.

Camera:

Access to your camera is required so that the drug can be identified by scanning the data matrix code or the barcode on the package.

Storage:

The app uses the memory of your mobile device to temporarily store the content of the medication. This is useful because it gives you access to the instructions for use you have viewed even if you cannot access the Internet.
