The little prince is a poetic tale of Saint-Exupéry. In it, a pilot is lost in the Sahara desert after his plane suffered a breakdown, but to his surprise, it is there that he meets a small prince from another planet. The story has a philosophical theme, which includes social criticism aimed at the "strangeness" with which adults see things. These criticisms of "important" things and the world of adults appear in the book throughout the narrative.

Although it is considered a children's book because of the way it is written, it also has deep observations about life and human nature. This can be exemplified by the encounter between the little prince and the fox, who teaches him the true meaning of friendship and the essence of human relationships.

The story begins when the narrator's plane, which is a pilot as well as the author, suffers a breakdown in the Sahara desert, far from civilization. However, out of nowhere appears a small child whom the narrator calls "the little prince." He asks him to draw a sheep (or lamb, depending on the translation) but instead, the narrator decides to show him his old drawing of the elephant inside the boa, which, to his surprise, the prince interprets correctly.
