Taipei 101 is the name of a skyscraper in the Xinyi district of Taipei, Taiwan. It held the title of the tallest building in the world until it was surpassed by the Burj Khalifa building in the United Arab Emirates on July 21, 2007. It officially lost the title of tallest building with the opening of Burj Khalifa on January 4, 2010.

Its real name is Taipei financial center. The reason why it is called Taipei 101 is that it is a 101-story building. The project, which started to be built in 1999, was completed in 2004.

The height of the building to the roof is 460 m. Thanks to the terrace on the 91st floor, it is possible to watch the Taipei landscape comfortably.

Taipei 101 has the second-fastest elevator in the world. As the elevator exits, it travels 16.8 meters/second. While descending, it travels a distance of 10 m/s. The cost of the single elevator in the building is around 2 million USD. There is an 8-adjustment mass damper located at the center of gravity of the building, which carries more than 6 tons of weight at the ends to prevent bending due to high winds and prevent the people inside from being disturbed. These tunable mass dampers keep the weight, and therefore the entire structure, in motion to reduce the effect of the wind.

The design is described by Chang Yong Lee & Partners as an Asian-style building according to Chinese traditions.
