The idea of ​​the Christian Bible as the New Testament originated from early Christian texts that saw Christ as a mediator in a new covenant with God. The Christian Bible, ie the New Testament, contains 27 scriptures. These writings can be divided into 4 types of religious texts: four gospels, one early church history, twenty-one epistles, one apocalypse.

The Bible, or the Holy Scriptures, for Christians means a collection of scriptures that are divided into the books of the Old Testament and the New Testament.

The Orthodox Church has included 39 books in the Old Testament. According to the canon of the Roman Catholic Church, the Old Testament contains 46 books, because it includes, in addition to 39 protocanonical, and seven nine-canonical books (Protestants call them apocryphal).
