It is a book on literature and rhetoric by Al-Jahiz that talks about going to the kings, their restaurants, and their friendships, and about the qualities of the regrets and the good manners that kings should have with the subjects, in both cases of humor and seriousness. He derives it from Arab history at times, and from the history of the Persians at times, speaking about the morals of kings and peoples, in their different lands, trying after each talk to lay out the general lines, indirectly, for high social literature.

The book serves as a reference for teaching kings "etiquette" and the etiquette of governance, the characteristics and morals of the king, and how to act in different situations, and also for teaching people the etiquette of sitting with kings. Among them, and lists many stories and anecdotes that we may not find in other sources of Islamic history.

Author:

Abu Othman Amr bin Bahr bin Mahboub bin Fazara Al-Laithi Al-Kinani Al-Basri (159 AH - 255 AH) was an Arab writer who was one of the great imams of literature in the Abbasid era. With Al-Jahiz because of the extrusion of his eyes, he also worked as a beauty for Amr bin Qala’ Al-Kinani, and among his qualities was that he was sharp-witted, with rigor and the ability to speak, intuition and a good opinion. He was considered a role model for the originators and their imam in that era, just as Ibn al-Muqaffa was their imam in the first era.

❇️ Some reviews of Al-Jahiz's book "The Crown in Ethics of Kings" ❇️

- Al-Jahiz talks about the morals of kings, especially the kings of Persia, what they love and what they hate, and what they are characterized by, and how they should be treated and entered upon, although the book is flawed by insulting some of the companions and followers such as Muawiya, may God be pleased with him, Harun al-Rashid and others.

Ahmed Hassan

- His literary style is wonderful, in which he generally shows the strength of the influence of the culture of the Sasanian Persians in the Abbasid era

Ahmed Abdel Magid

- The book, as it appears from its title, is about the etiquette of government, ministry, and sitting with rulers. It is an art of Islamic writing, in which there are many books

dated

- In general, the book is good, and I liked Al-Jahiz’s choice of the term “kings” instead of caliphs, because many of the rules for babysitting kings mentioned in the book have great affectation and fabrication, and the Arabs followed the path of the kings of some previous nations and did not exist during the era of the rightly guided caliphs

Mohammed Abbas

❇️ Some quotes from Al-Jahiz's book "The Crown in Ethics of Kings" ❇️

- It is fair for the king to give everyone his portion and every class their right, and for the law of justice in his morals to be like the law of what he follows in terms of performing the obligatory and supererogatory duties that he must observe and persevere in adhering to, and be kind to people in extending their hands in food, so that he is equal in that between kings And the middle and general style

There is nothing quicker in the transition of states and the destruction of the kingdom than the transition of these classes from their ranks, until the low is raised to the rank of the noble, and the noble is lowered to the rank of the low.

- The sanctity of the king's council, if he is absent, is like his sanctity if he is present

The heart is more just to the heart than the tongue, and there is little that is in the heart but it appears in the eyes, since the members are in common and related to each other.

He who fears God should not fear anyone else

- Whoever betrays his property, is more treacherous than others

- Whoever is addicted to something from the pleasures of the world will not find for him the pleasure of the greedy and longing existence of the craving
