The National Day in Qatar is a celebration held to commemorate the founding of the State of Qatar by the founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Muhammad Al Thani, on December 18, 1878 AD, and it is celebrated on December 18 of each year. It was decided to consider this day a holiday by virtue of a decree issued by the Emir and Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani on June 21, 2007.

Qatar National Day emphasizes the country's identity and history; It embodies the ideals and hopes on which the state was built, and also honors the men and women who participated in building the state, in particular the Al Thani family, the current leaders of the State of Qatar.

This celebration aims to introduce and appreciate Qatar's heritage, and to enhance pride in the State of Qatar.
