Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain [a] (commonly known as Begum [b] Rokeya; 9 December 180 [c] - 9 December 1932) was a Bengali thinker, essayist, novelist, literary and social reformer. She was a pioneer of the Bengali Women's Awakening and the first Bengali feminist. [4] [1] Innovation, rationalism and humor are the inherent features of his writings. [1] The subject matter of his essays was wide and extensive. Her research on science is also reflected in various essays. [1] In her essay Matichur (1904), Rokeya argues for gender equality, calling for women's economic, social and political self-reliance, and citing lack of education as the cause of feminism.
