The group name "BTS" has the meaning of "preventing social prejudice and oppression directed at teens and 20s and protecting their music". In Korea, it is pronounced as "bangtan sonyeondan (morning: 방탄소년단)", so it is abbreviated as "bangtan".

Since 2017, with a view to global expansion, the abbreviation of ``Bangtan Sonyeondan'', which is the romanization of BTS, has been used as a common name for the English-speaking world, ``BTS''.
