About 古墳ナビ

Posts explanations and location information of ancient tombs all over Japan. It also works with Google Maps, which is useful for going out.

"Kofun" recorded in this app does not vaguely refer to "burial mounds of old times." It refers to a specific type of burial mound built during the Kofun period (around the middle of the 3rd century to around the 7th century), which is an archaeological period that follows the Yayoi period in Japanese history.

"Specific form of burial mound" means a keyhole-shaped tumulus, a scallop-shaped tumulus, a keyhole-shaped tumulus, a double-rounded tumulus, a two-sided tumulus, a round tumulus, a square tumulus, a rectangular tumulus, a hexagonal tumulus, an octagonal tumulus, a two-sided middle-shaped tumulus, The basic types of burial mounds are the two-sided middle tumulus, the upper round lower burial mound, and the two-sided middle tumulus.

About 160,000 burial mounds are known to exist nationwide. Since it is impossible to record all of them, this application mainly focuses on "kofun designated by the government as historic sites" and "kofun where cultural properties designated by the government were excavated" as "important burial mounds". contains about 1,270 examples (including not only individual burial mounds but also burial mounds).

Please note that the location areas of the burial mounds recorded in this app are quite biased. This is because there are overwhelmingly many burial mounds designated as national historic sites and burial mounds excavated from nationally designated cultural properties in the Kinki region (mainly the Kinai region), the Chugoku region, and northern Kyushu. These regions were home to powerful local governments during the Kofun period (mid-3rd century to around the 7th century) and the center of the Yamato government at the time of its birth. And many of the burial mounds are "graves of those in power." Naturally, there are many tombs of historically important figures, including the emperor's tomb, the tombs of the heads of local governments, the tombs of influential ruling families, and the accompanying historically important excavated relics. is. For these reasons, I would like to apologize for the bias in the overall recording area. In addition, in order to correct the overemphasis on recording areas to some extent, we intentionally recorded a certain number of burial mounds that have not been designated as national historic sites or cultural properties in areas such as the Kanto region and the Tokyo metropolitan area.

Also, even if you visit a burial mound using the location information provided by this app, it does not necessarily mean that the shape of the burial mound remains the same as when it was built. Many of the burial mounds have been robbed or destroyed over the course of their long history.

Finally, the descriptions of "kofun that are nationally designated historic sites" and "kofun that excavate nationally designated cultural properties" are quoted from the Agency for Cultural Affairs' "Database of Nationally Designated Cultural Properties." It should be noted that there are many
