조영엽 박사는 한국 교계와 신학계의 대표적인 원칙론자이자 칼빈주의적 보수주의 신학자이다. 평양에서 태어나 6·25 전쟁 당시 1·4 후퇴 때 부모님을 따라 남하하여 서울 대광중고, 총신대학교 신학과, 단국대학교 영문과, 총신대학교 신학대학원(58회), 동 대학원(4회)을 졸업한 후, 대한예수교장로회(합동) 수도노회에서 안수를 받고, 미국 보수 신학의 요람인 페이스 신학교(Faith Theological Seminary), 그레이스 신학대학원(Grace Graduate School)을 졸업했다.
