Afsane are Urdu version of short-stories. Although the main ingredient is said to be Wahdat-e-ta'assur - a central idea which is to be conveyed. Therefore, sometimes the length of text is not really 'short' but still called an Afsana.

افسانے، انگریزی کی صنف "شارٹ اسٹوری" کی اردو میں اڈاپشن ہے۔ ایک فرق یہ ہے کہ افسانوں میں سب سے اہم چیز "وحدتِ تاثر" بتائی جاتی ہے، وہ ایک مرکزی خیال جس کے علاوہ کہانی کے دوسرے پہلو پوشیدہ ہوتے ہیں۔ چنانچہ افسانے کا اختصار بعض اوقات پس پشت چلا جاتا ہے اور وہ "شارٹ اسٹوری" نہیں رہتا۔ ہاں، افسانہ ضرور رہتا ہے۔
