The Arc de Triomphe is a historical monument located in Paris, the capital of France. It is located in the middle of Charles de Gaulle Square, on the western part of the Champs Elysées. It is 45 meters in length, 22 meters in width, and 49 meters in height.

Charles de Gaulle Square is a very wide and large roundabout that gives way to 12 streets drawn in the 19th century by Georges Eugène Haussmann. These streets include Grande-Armée Street, Wagram Street or the Champs Elysées.

Napoleon Bonaparte addressed the victorious French soldiers at the battle of Austerlitz and said, "You will return home under the triumphal arches." he said. He wanted the Triumphal Arch to be built on February 18, 1806. Napoleon Bonaparte's first thought was to make the Arc de Triomphe the starting point of a long street that runs through the Louvre Museum and Bastille Square. The French architect Jean-François-Thérèse Chalgrin undertook the construction of the Arc de Triomphe.

Napoleon Bonaparte, who fought against the Russian Empire in 1810, interrupted the construction of the Arc de Triomphe. It was stopped entirely during the restoration period. When Louis-Philippe became the head of the country, the construction of the Triumphal Arch was resumed in 1832 and was completed in 1836. In the final stages of the construction of the Arc de Triomphe, the architects were French Louis-Robert Goust and Jean-Nicolas Huyot.

The Triumphal Arch was inaugurated on July 29, 1836, in celebration of the 6th anniversary of the July Revolution. It was planned that military convoys would pass, and Louis-Philippe would make a speech at the opening. However, a few days before the opening, both the military convoy and the speech were canceled, as an attempt was made to assassinate Louis-Philippe. Instead of a military convoy, Louis-Philippe hosted a banquet for 300 guests.

On December 15, 1840, the funeral of Napoleon Bonaparte passed under the Arc de Triomphe.

The Arc de Triomphe has become a historical monument. Beneath it is an unknown soldier's tomb for the French soldiers who died in World War I. The flame on the tomb has not been extinguished since 1923; The flame is renewed every evening at 18:30 by war veterans and associations. Even on June 14, 1940, the day German soldiers entered Paris, and before the eyes of the Germans, the tomb was set ablaze.
