Capoeira is a martial sport developed by African slaves in Brazil in the 1500s. The movement in capoeira resembles a dance and is dotted on a kick. The battle in capoeira is usually accompanied by music and is called Jogo. Capoeira is often criticized because many people doubt his efficacy in real combat, compared to other martial arts such as Karate or Taekwondo.

Capoeira is a traditional martial system established in Brazil by African slaves brought by the Portuguese to Brazil to work on large estates. In ancient times they performed the exercises accompanied by traditional musical instruments, such as berimbau (a wooden arch with strings struck with a small wood to shake it) and atabaque (large drum), and it was also easier for them to hide the practice them in various activities such as the pleasure of a party performed by slaves in their residence called senzala. When a slave runs away he will be chased by a "hunter" an armed professional named capitães-do-mato (forest captain). Usually capoeira is the only martial used by the slaves to defend themselves. Their battle usually takes place in an indoor field in a tupi-guarani (one of the native languages of Brazil) called caá-puêra ?? some historians have argued that this is the origin of the name of the martial art.

Those who had escaped gathered in the fenced villages called quilombo, where it was difficult to reach. The most important Quilombo is the Palmares whose population ever reaches the tens of thousands and lasts for more than sixty years against invading powers. Their most famous chief named Zumbi. When the law for the elimination of slavery emerged and Brazil began importing white workers from countries like Portugal, Spain and Italy to work on agriculture, many negroes were forced to migrate to cities, and because many of them were unemployed started to become a villain. Capoeira, already an urban and studied by whites, in cities like Rio de Janeiro, Salvador da Bahia and Recife, began to be seen by the public as a game of criminals and street people, the law came to ban Capoeira. It seems that at that time they started using razors in their fight, this was the influence of Portuguese capoeira players and singing fado (traditional Portuguese music similar to keroncong).

Capoeira not only became a culture, but also a national sport of Brazil, and the teachers of the country made capoeira become more internationally continuous, teaching in student groups, various fitness centers, small organizations, etc. Their students learn to sing Capoeira songs with Portuguese ?? ?? Capoeira é prá homi, / mininu e mulhé ... ?? (Capoeira for men, / children and women).
