Yoga (Aksara Dewanagari योग) from Sanskrit (योग) means "union", which means "union with nature" or "union with the Creator". Yoga is one of the six teachings in Hindu philosophy, which focuses on the activity of meditation or tapa in which one concentrates the whole mind to control the senses and the body as a whole.

The global community generally recognizes Yoga as the main exercise activity of the asana (posture) part of Hatta Yoga. Yoga is also used as one of the alternative treatments, usually it is done with breathing exercises, body work and meditation, which has been known and practiced for over 5000 years.

People who do yoga tapa are called yogis, yogin for male and yogini practitioners for female practitioners.

Hindu literature that contains teachings of Yoga, among them are Upaishad, Bhagavad Gita, Yogasutra, Hatta Yoga and several other literature.
