CIBIBA - Convention of Baptist Churches Independent in Bahia
The Convention of Baptist Churches Independent in Bahia (CIBIBA) is a Regional Convention, affiliated to the Convention of Baptist Churches Independent (CIBI).
Independent Baptists in Brazil originate from Örebro, Sweden Mission. Founded in 1892 by john ongman.
In 1911 a member of the Swedish colony installed in Vila Guarani, (today Guarani Missions) in Rio Grande do Sul, writes a letter requesting a missionary. This moves the heart of john ongman, president of the mission, and then sent missionary Erik Jansson, who arrives in Porto Alegre on 15 June 1912 and remains there for some time. On 12 September of that same year he arrives at Vila Guarani, being greeted by a large number of Swedish immigrants.
Not far from the Guarani village are German immigrants coming from Europe. Among them a group of converted brothers, who need care. Upon learning of the arrival of a Swedish missionary seek and are met. Erik Jansson goes to visit German immigrants, baptize converts each month, organized churches and congregations, which bind the Evangelical Baptist Convention of South Rio Grande founded in 1919. In 1939 the first churches start performing their annual Assemblies in the language that bring overseas: German. In 1958 the Independent Baptist work reaches the state of Paraná, spreads and several churches are organized.
In 1952, the city of Ijuí-RS, is founded the Convention of the Evangelical Baptist Churches Independent in Brazil, with the objective of expanding missionary work in Brazil, considering that already had missionary work in São Paulo, Sorocaba and Jundiaí, led by missionaries: Alfredo Winderlich, Waldemar John Sjöberg, Olaf Berg and also the missionary Esther Danielsson. The first president of the Convention was the pastor Pedro Falcon. On this occasion is sent by the newly organized convention, the first missionary couple, Annie and Alcides Orrigo, to the city of Santa Rosa. In 1966, also in the city of Ijuí, the Convention had its name changed to: CONVENTION OF CHURCHES BAPTIST INDEPENDENT, which remains today.
With the organization of the Convention of Baptist Churches Independent in 1952, missionary fronts were opened in almost all states. In addition, work has expanded to Paraguay, Peru and Portugal.
From the Regional Convention 1988 are arranged. Through them are met the needs of each region. On November 11, 2017 was organized the Convention of Baptist Churches Independent in Bahia (CIBIBA), for the purpose of:
Create and execute mission projects;
Create and maintain cultural, literary, educational and welfare institutions;
Encourage fraternity between affiliated churches;
Act as Advisor to the Board affiliated churches;
Ensure the unit Independent Baptist.
