The Benefits of Writing Down Your Dreams

Flex Your Subconscious Muscle

Dream awareness takes you deep into your subconscious mind, and allows you to flex this little used muscle that has so much potential to grow and evolve. Just like anything else, the more you use it, the stronger it gets.

This area of tenderness and sensitivity is a place so few of us go and try to explore – but a place where we have so much work to do! We all get so caught up and busy with the worldly accomplishments and goals we have set for ourselves that we often forget about the (more important) soul work that truly helps us to advance and thrive.

This is the work that stays with us forever.

Find Meaning

Access the hidden meaning, desires and emotion behind your dreams. Dream life is just as real as the waking, and I like to take each and every situation as a chance to learn, grow and experience.

Think. Ask questions: What does this all mean? How does this reflect what is going on in my life, and what I want or need? Have I experienced something in dream life I so desperately need to have while awake?

Dreams can also provide insight into future happenings, the more you write them down, the more you realize you know so much more than you are aware of.

Don’t Miss the Message

So much of what I write on paper after dreaming is completely lost to my conscious (waking) memory after doing so. Once I re-read my entries I can dive back, in and remember the atmosphere, energy and mood of the dream, just like revisiting a fond memory. But if I didn’t write it down, it would have been lost forever!

Identify Recurring Themes

Have you been here before, or sworn you have? We’ve all experienced dreams that seemed so close and familiar to us, and by writing each and every dream we are able to remember down on paper, we finally have real proof of their recurrence. If you have a familiar dream experience, go back through the book and see what you can find! You may find yourself in the same exact place and time as months or years before. Wild.

Practice, Exercise, Adventure!

The more we access, assess and become aware of our dream lives, the more likely we are to be aware of them WHILE we are still dreaming. Known as lucid dreaming, we eventually gain the ability to actually CONTROL them, and really play around.

One of the first steps to training the mind to lucid dream is logging each and every dream as soon as they happen, which could mean waking several times throughout the night — but believe me, its worth it! You can go anywhere you’d like to, in a dream…

Creating a Wonderful Storybook

dreams 1Going back and reading what you’ve dreamt is one of the most interesting things you can do. It’s crazy the things a person can dream up! Some are so charming, insightful and captivating. Others are melancholy, gloomy and cold, but somehow all so beautiful, mysterious and vivid.

We sleep almost half our lives. This time should not be wasted and forgotten – and writing each down is like creating a wonderful storybook to read forever and ever.

So get out there, (or go in there) and explore — see what you’re really made of… romance, love, adventure and mystery. Meet your “other half”.

Happy dreaming lovers!
