Style Guide: How to Style A Drop Waist Dress, Now and Later

Call me crazy, but I’m welcoming in the new season with open arms. Most Californians dread saying goodbye to their beloved summer, but I’m ready to embrace all things autumn. A change in the season also means a change in my wardrobe though, too. That’s right, I’m willingly trading in my favorite swimsuit for cozy layers. Cooler days and spicy chai lattes are an added bonus! For the most part I don’t mind parting with a majority of my summer closet, but there are always a handful of pieces that I dread putting away for months on end. So instead of investing in a whole new wardrobe, I’ve been challenging myself to see just how many summer outfits I can transition into the next season.

One of my all-time favorite dresses that I can’t bear to part with just yet is a pretty navy blue drop waist number from Paper Crown. This darling dress is perfect for all occasions–from lunch with my best friend to bridal showers and date nights, I feel comfortable wearing it anywhere. Since this dress is so versatile with it’s three quarter length sleeves and above the knee hem, I know that I’ll be able to wear it well into the coming seasons with a few layers and accessories. To help inspire you to get the most out of your transitional wardrobe, I’ve styled two looks with Paper Crown’s Florence Dress. One look you can wear right now while the weather is still warm, and one you can save for the chilly days ahead. Keep scrolling to see how I styled two complete outfits using just one dress…

Now

Since the sun is still shining and the temps are up, it doesn’t take much to doll this dress up on a warm day. Floppy hats are always a good idea—they’re effortlessly stylish, especially when you have second (or third) day hair. I chose black LC Lauren Conrad buckle up flats and minimal jewelry for this look, but dressing it up is just as easy. The ruffled hem and buttons on the back are the perfect feminine touch without going overboard! For warmers days I recommend pairing this dress with your favorite flats or sandals and a subtle makeup look.

Later

This next look is my personal favorite. I love bundling up and can’t wait to embrace the coats that I have waiting for me in my closet. Tights and black booties are a classic combination that I look forward to every year as well. I don’t mind adding a little drama to my look around the holiday season so wearing a red lip was a no brainer for me. Elevate your look with a smoky eye, statement necklace or a sleek side pony.

Who knew that it would be so easy to transform a single dress into two completely different outfits? Forgive me if I have these outfits on repeat for the next couple of months, but I’m totally in love. I hope you can find some pieces in your own wardrobes that are as easily transitioned as this Paper Crown dress was!
