About Exhale

Spirometry for education and mass epidemiology research featuring a DIY device

** Warning ! - This is an experimental application and its content should be used for training and education. In any case you should consult a medical doctor! ***

Exhale! is the only spirometry app for education and mass epidemiology research featuring a DIY device

Standard Spirometry based pulmonology examination using your mobile device.

Connect a special DIY(Do It Yourself; instruction included inside the app) or commercial pneumatic-magnetic adapter to your smartphone that traduces air pressure, during exhalation, into a magnetic signal, which could be read by the smartphone's magnetic sensor. This sensor assembly enables reconstruction of the air volume expiration measurements during exhalation and therefore enables extracting important measurements commonly used by a standard spirometry laboratory medical test.

The user can preform and manage his condition and see the tests result chronology. Get reports and send us data via Email for improving the application and improving our data mining algorithms and research.

The extracted measurements, graphs and data, enables preforming further analysis including applying AI (Artificial Intelligence) diagnosis, machine learning classification algorithms and data mining epidemiology and prognosis research on populations.

Measure and track many important parameters:

- FVC

- FEV1

- FEV1/FVC

- Volume (including vs time graph)

- PEF (peak expiration flow)

- Expiration Flow vs time

- Expiration flow vs volume

and many more!!!

- Compare the results to normal results considering your age, gender and height!!

How does it works

The adapter compartment is fixed on top of the location where the magnet sensor of your device is located. In this compartment, air exhaled through is pushing a magnet toward the sensor, enable measuring magnetic changes correlated with the air pressure force. The algorithm integrated into the application uses a series of physics mathematics formulas to reconstruct the air volume exhaled and the volume of the lungs during exhalation time is recorded. From those recordings, a single measurement value is being extracted: FEV1/FVC ratio. This value is time dependent and amplitude invariant, and therefore is not dependent on the specific type of mobile device and sensor you are using what enable using the same test commonly used in spirometry pulmonology laboratory.
