Hand lamp — portable light source for indoor use.

It is believed that the main obstacle to the creation of compact portable electric lamp was the lack of dry batteries, that is simply of such batteries, from which nothing spills out, as they are not vertical. The fact that the first source of electric current was a tank filled with liquid electrolyte and therefore were not too mobile. So, arguing about the invention of the pocket flashlight, not to mention Carl Gassner, who first made and patented in 1886 the battery which did not leak.

The device, from which all the known kinds of electric lights were invented and patented, only 13 years later, in 1899 in USA by David Miselle, who the same year sold his patent to the company American Electrical Novelty and Manufacturing Company, founded by a native of Belarus Conrad Hubert (aka Akiba Horowitz).
