Shivaji Fort Restoring & Durg Puja Shivaji Trail, a Fort Restoration Group of Pune, Maharashtra initiated by Milind Kshirsagar in 1996, started a cultural tradition of Durg puja (fort worship) on the last Sunday of February each year since 1997 to raise awareness about forts. Started with a single selected fort, every year this tradition has been continuing for 19 years. The number of forts and people has increased as well as the Durg puja and as a result in 2016, Durg puja was performed in 121 forts of 5 Indian states - Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh simultaneously on Sunday, Feb 28, 2016. Out of 121 Forts, 22 were graced by the descendants of Maratha warriors. Fort Restoration Group has coined the slogan - ‘Save Forts Save Heritage’
