Find the best Front Elevation Design for your House!

The elevation of a house plays an important role in determining the financial conditions, way of living and mental health of its occupants. A perfect elevation should be balanced and neither tilted nor too high. Vastu expert SK Mehta talks about the various types of elevations and its effects on its inhabitants.

1. A wide elevation is always considered lucky. For this reason, ancient buildings always had a balcony extended at the front above the main gate, making a terrace-like structure, which looked like a man with a broad chest. Also, all the corners should be intact. Unequal corners or cut-offs are particularly bad if on the North East or South West. Extensions in any section except the North East are not considered good.

2. If the house faces South or West, the elevation should have fewer and smaller windows. Similarly, North or East-facing houses should either be aligned with the neighbouring houses or have a more protruding frontage. On the other hand, it is okay to have a more deeply set house than the neighbours if it faces South orWest.

3. Nowadays, the trend is to have pillars, balconies or cantilevered portions. Keep in mind that if your house faces North or East, the pillars should be slender and the balcony or cantilevers should not extend by more than 4-5 feet.

4. When it comes to sloping roofs, ensure that the slant is always in the North or East direction.

5. While making planters on balconies, ensure that they are in the right direction, and that will not cause leakage later. Also, the plants should thrive well, else it will lead to negative energy.

6. Colours should also be chosen according to the specific elevation type. Apart from the main gate and railings, never use dark colours as it may lead to negative energy in the house.

7. When it comes to cladding the façade with tiles or stone, South and West-facing houses will benefit from such treatments, but not North or East facing ones. The latter will benefit from opting simple paint. If it is absolutely necessary for such houses to go for tile/stone cladding, restrict it to pillars and balcony.

8. The elevations of North and East-facing houses should have unobstructed doors and windows, and balcony parapets and railings should not be too high. It would be better to install clear glass on the windows rather than a dark one to allow positive energy to flow in smoothly.

9. A fixed glass is the best option for windows. South and West-facing openings can be shielded by creating a layer of glass or stone to reduce negative energy.

10. Pyramidal design elements on the elevation are considered good only for West and South-facing houses.

11. According to Feng Shui, South and East-facing houses benefit from the use of wood in the windows, doors and railings, while North and West-facing ones derive goodness from iron or steel.
