About Fuel Cars

Fuel consumption per 100 km for all cars

The consumption of your car is given in the technical characteristics that the manufacturer provides. It is expressed in liters per 100 km traveled, rated L / 100km (or in gallon per mile). The fuel consumption (gasoline or diesel) of your vehicle depends on the nature of the journey (urban, mixed or road) and the way you drive your vehicle. If your driving is sporty, you will sometimes consume up to 30 to 50% more compared to an eco-responsible driving. Consumption also depends on speed. When you drive at 130 km / h, you increase your fuel consumption by more than 30% at a speed of 90 km / h.

AVERAGE CONSUMPTION

The average consumption of a vehicle is given in liter per 100km. However, mainly in the United States, it is also displayed in Miles per gallon, or MPG.

This consumption takes into account 2 different types of surface or places in a route either; road consumption and city consumption. According to the Natural Resources Canada website, averages are based on the following percentage: 55% in the city and 45% on the road.

For years, the fuel consumption ratings advertised in Canada by automakers have been deemed too optimistic by consumers.

They are 15 to 25% lower than those of the US Environmental Protection Agency, which are considered more realistic. The gap is so important that it is the US data that Protect-You uses for its guide Autos.

Promised since 2012, the amendment to the fuel consumption assessment protocol for vehicles was finally announced by Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, Joe Olivier.

Annual mileage: a key factor

You need to know your annual mileage to calculate the amount of fuel needed for a year. The calculation is made using other information: the average to one hundred kilometers given by the manufacturer. If the gasoline vehicle is given to consume 6 liters per 100 kilometers, while in diesel, it consumes only 4, the volume of fuel needed will be lower for diesel. For LPG, consumption is generally higher than with gasoline, say 7 liters per cent.

Get the average consumption of gasoline, diesel, ethanol or gas, the cost, the energy consumed by a car, a motorcycle, a truck and why not, from a boat or an airplane.

To calculate the average fuel consumption of a vehicle, the simplest way is to:

Set the trip odometer to zero when refilling the tank.

- Drive to almost empty the tank.

- Refuel full of gasoline or diesel

- Record the number of liters of fuel required for this tank, as well as the number of kilometers traveled on the daily meter.

- All that remains is to enter the values below to obtain the average consumption per 100 kilometers.

How to consume less fuel?

. You can consider changing the vehicle: it's true, if refueling is a budget that you can not afford, in this case, we strongly advise you to opt for another solution, that is to say to find a vehicle that consumes less energy. As we have seen, manufacturers' information on fuel consumption is often wrong. Also, do not hesitate to rely on the advice of a professional or drivers.

. You can also adopt a more flexible driving: it's true, by modifying your driving, for example by rolling at the right speed, and avoiding abrupt acceleration, you will be able to modify your consumption, and to revise it downwards.
