Gateway Arch was ranked 14th in America's Favorite Architecture List by the AIA in 2007.

Gateway Arch was expected to come open to the public in 1964, but in 1967 the public relations agency stopped guessing about the opening date. Kemer's visitor center opened on June 10, 1967, and the tram started operating on July 24.

Gateway Arch is frequently mentioned as one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world, with more than four and a half million visitors per year. The arch was listed as a National Historic Landmark on June 2, 1987, and is also counted in the National Register of Historic Places.

The foundations of the 'Park on the Highway' project, the first component of the CityArchRiver project, were laid on August 2, 2013. This project reshaped the surface traffic that formed a landscaped structure on Interstate 70 and a moat that previously separated the Gateway Arch. This project was completed in December 2014.
