There are two types of officers:

How are promotions in the National People's Army:

Promotions in the People's National Army are made on the basis of length of service, academic and educational level.

The promotions within the class take place normally. As for the promotions from one class to another category, it is through an acceptance competition.

For example, in order for the subordinate officer (a captain, for example) to be promoted to a high-ranking officer (major), he must prove certain years of service in his current rank, then he must run for an admission competition and if he succeeds, he enters the command and staff course at the Cherchell Military Academy, the duration of the course varies from specialization To another, after which the subordinate officer is promoted to a senior officer

As for high-ranking officers (colonels) who aspire to become dean officers (brigadier general), they must also prove a specific service period, then the competition, and after success, they enter high-class training courses at the Higher Military Academy that ends with submitting a memorandum or thesis on current security and military issues and Then the upgrade is done

As for promotions within the same category, for example, from lieutenant to first lieutenant or from major to presenter, they do not require a competition and a training course, but only reliance on the period of service

Retirement is optional and not compulsory for the elderly.

Al-Jundi does not carry a badge.

There are exceptional promotions, which are the prerogatives of the Minister of Defense or the first man in the state.
