Real-time monitoring and recording network of PM2.5.

The main object of GreenYourAir is the monitoring of air quality in the city of Volos and in particular the monitoring of microparticles with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5).

For the first time in history, citizens can be informed in real time about the air quality in the city of Volos and be protected (especially the vulnerable groups of citizens) in case the PM2.5 levels exceed the official limits of the World Health Organization ( daily limit: 25μg / m3 and annual limit: 10μg / m3). It is noted that the European Union has set only an annual limit for PM2.5 which is 25μg / m3.

The problem of air quality requires an interdisciplinary approach by scientists with appropriate and specialized theoretical and technical knowledge. The GreenYourAir team was formed in September 2017 at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Thessaly under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Georgiou K.D. Sacharidis, in the context of two European research projects, GreenYourMove and GreenYourRoute.

The GreenYourAir research team created a network of twelve (12) PM2.5 microparticle meters in the city of Volos. Officially, the network operates 24 hours a day from March 1, 2019. At the same time, in collaboration with the Volos General Hospital, medical cases were collected by the Emergency Department. The GreenYourAir research team in collaboration with the Medical School of the University of Thessaly draws conclusions about the impact of air quality on human health.
