The art of paper folding (origami) is well known. Kirigami may not be as popular as origami. Kirigami resembles origami in the art of paper folding. The main difference is that in origami we fold paper to make artwork while on kirigami the paper is folded and cut to produce artwork.

Kirigami has existed since antiquity. The word kirigami comes from the word "kiru" which means cutting and "gami" which means paper. So kirigami means the art of cutting paper. Tools and materials used are scissors, cutter, glue and of course color paper.

The basic form of kirigami is a 2-D circular spherical ornament. Circular round ornament is obtained by cutting the fold symmetry. For beginners are usually taught how to cut 4 folds, 6 folds or 8 folds. To make a 4-fold piece, the paper is folded 2 symmetrically, then folded 2 symmetrically once more.
