Christopher Comstock, known professionally as Marshmello, is an American electronic dance music producer and DJ. He is of course famous for wearing a giant marshmallow shaped head when performing on stage; and for a while, his true identity was unknown by most.

In the documentary, Shalizi describes the process and effort into creating the Marshmello brand.

His stage name, an alternative spelling of "marshmallow", and his marshmallow mascot head were both inspired by Canadian electronic music producer Deadmau5, who also uses an alternate spelling for his stage name and performs wearing a "dead mouse" mascot head. Acknowledgement of Deadmau5's contribution to Marshmello's persona is evident in the music video for "Alone".

Marshmello isn’t about to confirm or deny who he is, no matter how convinced the internet is. As he put it on Twitter, “I don’t take my helmet off because I don’t want or need fame. I’m genuinely trying to create something positive for people to connect with...The helmet makes me marshmello and also makes you marshmello...we are all marshmello.”

Marshmello has made history – all while wearing a giant, white bucket for a head. The DJ has headlined EDM festivals, played the opening ceremony of the Champions League, and was the first artist ever to perform a concert in the Fortnite video game. He has been a fixture on the Billboard charts, has constantly been in the top 10 of DJ Magazine’s list of top 100 DJs in the world, and even held the WWE 24/7 Championship.

Despite not revealing his identity, Marshmello has earned a huge amount of money as a DJ. Celebrity Net Worth reports that he has a whopping $40 million in the bank, mainly through touring and private gigs.

And speaking of money, Forbes reports that Marshmello’s helmet costs $55,000 and has an internal air-conditioning system and programmable LED lights, and it weighs just eight pounds.
