METAL MUSIC HISTORY:

Heavy metal music has gone through a major transition from where it originated from to the modern sound of today. Heavy metal music has roots in blues rock and psychedelic/acid rock stemming back to 60s in the U.S. and the U.K. Heavy metal generally follows the same composition:

- Highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness

- Lyrics and performance styles are often associated with aggression and machismo

In the late 60s, early heavy metal bands like Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple attracted large fan bases despite being hated by critics. Over time, bands like Judas Priest rid themselves of the blues rock influence and helped spur the genreís evolution into a more punk rock style like that of Motorhead.

The 70s saw the emergence of a different form of heavy metal known as Christian metal. As a means of evangelizing the widely spread and largely popular heavy metal scene, Christian metal was a direct response to this culture and is defined by its distinct use of biblical songs lyrics as well as the dedication of band members to Christianity.

During the 80s, glam metal became a popular genre, and fans saw the introduction of bands like Poison. In the underground scene a style of metal emerged that produced an array of aggressive style music, while extreme subgenres of metal such as death metal and black metal also became a popular subcultural phenomena.
