Qi Xi Festival is also known as the “Chinese Valentine’s Day”. It occurs on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. In Japan and Korea, it is known as Tanabata and Chilseok respectively. According to legend, Qi Xi celebrates the love story between the Cowherd and Weaver Girl. The Weaver Girl, being the daughter of a Goddess, was bored with life and went down to the Earth, where she met Cowherd, fell in love and got married. The Goddess was angry and banished Cowherd and Weaver Girl to opposite sides of the Milky Way galaxy to separate them. Once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month, magpies would form a bridge to enable the lovers to reunite. This day is now celebrated as Qi Xi, where couples renew their commitment to each other.
