* History & purpose *

Two hundred years ago Bhagwan Swaminarayan told one of His Paramhansa, Shatanand Muni, to write a stotra (verses) that, on chanting, would protect His devotees from evil influences, fear, and obstacles. Thereafter, The Janmangal Namavali is the essence of 1008 names of Bhagwan Swaminarayan called Sarvamangal Stotra written by Shatanand Muni. Shatanand Muni described Bhagwan Swaminarayan's glory and virtues in 108 names. Each name refers to the power and qualities of Bhagwan Swaminarayan.

* Purpose of Chanting *

Shatanand Muni mentions that besides dissolving personal fears and problems the chanting of Janmangal Namavali will also help an aspirant to achieves dharma (morality), arth (wealth), kam (desires) and moksha (liberation) in life. An aspirant also achieves his wishes and absolve of all sins by chanting the Janmangal Namavali with devotion and glory ten times each day.

Today, Our Guruji H.D.H Nilkanthcharandasji swami chants the Janmangal Namavali at the end of his daily puja for the happiness and spiritual progress of sadhus and devotees and for peace in the world.

* इतिहास और उद्देश्य *

दो सौ साल पहले भगवान स्वामिनारायण ने अपने परमहंस में से एक शतानंद मुनि को एक स्तोत्र (श्लोक) लिखने के लिए कहा था, जो जप करने पर, उनके भक्तों को बुरे प्रभाव, भय और बाधाओं से बचाए। इसके बाद, जन्ममंगल नामावली शतानंद मुनि द्वारा लिखित सर्वमंगल स्तोत्र नामक भगवान स्वामिनारायण के 1008 नामों का सार है। शतानंद मुनि ने १०८ नामों में भगवान स्वामिनारायण की महिमा और गुणों का वर्णन किया है। प्रत्येक नाम भगवान स्वामिनारायण की शक्ति और गुणों को दर्शाता है।

* जप का उद्देश्य *

शतानंद मुनि ने उल्लेख किया है कि व्यक्तिगत भय और समस्याओं को दूर करने के अलावा जनमंगल नामावली का जाप एक मुमुक्षु को जीवन में धर्म (नैतिकता), अर्थ (धन), काम (इच्छा) और मोक्ष (मुक्ति) प्राप्त करने में भी मदद करता है। एक मुमुक्षु भी हर दिन दस बार भक्ति और महिमा के साथ जन्मंगल नामावली का जाप करके अपनी इच्छाओं को प्राप्त करता है और सभी पापों से मुक्त होता है।
