Jasmine ( Jasmínum, yasemin ) is a genus of evergreen shrubs from the family of olives ( Oleaceae ). One should not confuse it with the Chubushnik shrub ( Philadelphus ) which in Russia is often incorrectly called jasmine. Representatives of the genus are found in the warm belt of both hemispheres including the subtropics.

Curly or erect shrubs with simple, triple or odd-numbered leaves without stipules and large regular flowers.

Corolla flowers white yellow or reddish separate mostly with a narrow long tube inside of which are two stamens with short filaments; Ovary is the upper turning when ripe in a berry.

In the summer of 2011, the Chinese government frightened by unrest in the Arab world decided to ban the sale of jasmine and expose the name of this flower to censorship on the Internet the Chinese Internet began to fill anonymous calls for protests against violence by the authorities and for freedom of speech rioters called on the Chinese to go silently on Streets every Sunday with jasmine flowers in hand.
