Kala Bhairava is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and the Devata of the Lord Rahu (Navagraha Planet). Kala Bhairava is also regarded as the guardian of Lord Shiva temples. Kala Bhairava is the Rudra Avatar of Shiva who is the omnipresent time or Kala. Kala or time is the fearsome face of Shiva as time stops for none.

Each and every living being is afraid of time as it spares none. Hence Kala is feared by one and all. The Kala Bhairava is recited to make your journey through time or life free from troubles and dangers. Kal means 'time' and 'Bhairava' the manifestation of Shiva.

Bhairava is the wandering form of Lord Shiva and they guard the cardinal points. There are sixty four Bhairava's. These sixty four Bhairava's are grouped under eight categories and each category is headed by one major Bhairava. The major eight Bhairava's are called Aṣṭāṅga Bhairava's. The Ashta Bhairava's control the eight directions of this universe. Each Bhairava has eight sub Bhairavas under them, totaling 64 Bhairava's. All of the Bhairavas are ruled and controlled by Maha Swarna Kala Bhairava otherwise known as Kala Bhairava, who is the supreme ruler of time of this universe as per Hindu scriptures
