About Kaidah Tafsir By Ahmad Sarwat

Explanation of the Purpose of the Interpretation Rules by Ahmad Sarwat, Lc. MA.

This Android application is an Explanation of the Purpose of the Rules of Interpretation by Ahmad Sarwat, Lc. MA. In PDF format.

Prof. Dr. H. M. Quraish Shihab pointed out the weaknesses of teaching interpretation today, including that the teaching method so far has only led students to master the products of interpretation rather than their knowledge.

Even then it is limited to the chosen book of interpretation, and is again limited to the material of the selected verses in the syllabus. Even though the verses studied each semester are no more than 40 verses. Thus, a student during college only learns approximately 10% of the verses of the Koran. Even then, it is not certain that students can digest it properly.

Therefore, Quraish Shihab invites those interested in the study of the Koran in educational institutions (Islamic boarding schools and religious colleges) to review the emphasis in teaching the Koran, namely by emphasizing the Rules of Interpretation.

By mastering the Rules of Tafsir, an enthusiast of the study of the Koran will receive guidance through these Rules when they find them in similar verses even though they are not studied in class.

There are still many who are interested in the study of the Koran who do not understand well what is meant by the Rules of Tafsir, because books on this matter are still quite rare especially those in Indonesian.

What Qurash Shihab put forward is indeed logical from one side, but it also has weaknesses on the other. Perhaps this idea stems from the low number of Al-Quran verses that are taught to students, due to the limited number of credits and the number of semesters.

This is also what the author felt when he finished his bachelor degree at LIPIA. The syllabus for Tafsir courses only stops until juz 8 according to the number of semesters which also only have 8. This means that there are still 22 juz less to be able to complete Al-Quran exegesis, all of which total 30 juz.

However, this number is already very meaningful compared to not being taught anything at all, for example, being replaced by only being taught the Rules of interpretation. In the opinion of the author, in fact, the knowledge of students will be further away from studying the science of interpretation.
