Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter and television judge. After singing in church as a child, Katy Perry pursued a career in religious music as a teenager.

Katy Perry moved to Los Angeles the following year to pursue a career in secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently worked with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin. After taking the stage name Katy Perry.

Katy Perry was born in Santa Barbara, California, the daughter of Pentecostal pastors Mary Christine and Maurice Keith Hudson. His parents converted to Christianity again, each of which returned to the religion after "wild youth". Katy Perry has English, German, Irish and Portuguese ancestry. Through his mother, he is the nephew of film director Frank Perry.
