Koko shirt is a shirt that someone used to perform the prayers in the mosque

Even some of us may feel uncomfortable if not using koko clothes when praying in the mosque. This shirt is already very commonly used by most Muslims. Uniquely, the origin of clothes koko itself is not from Indonesia but from China that is not also from the Islamic country. According to the Peranakan Chinese Cultural Observer, David Kwa, a shirt that is now known as the koko shirt is actually hereditary from a Chinese society suit called "Tui-Khim".

So, why this Chinese-style clothes can switch names into koko clothes. According to Remy Sylado, this shirt is named koko shirt because the wearing tui-khim is crank-crash, a special mention for Chinese men, then this dress is called the shirt-crash. To abbreviate the title before, because if it is called complete too much, then people prefer to call it with koko. So, this shirt was then known and identified as a shirt koko, the clothes that are commonly used Chinese people in their daily life.

Among the Betawi people, Tui-Khim clothes are worn and known as Tikim clothes. The Tui-Khim shirts are modeled like koko shirts, openings in the middle with five buttons. In Betawi society, the blend of this dress is usually batik pants. Maybe some of you still remember the setting of the late Benjamin S in soap opera Si Doel Anak Sekolahan? Well, something like that koko clothes combined with batik pants, typical of Betawi. Until the early 20th century, Chinese men in Indonesia still wore Tui-Khim costumes and compranged or loose pants for daily activities.
