About Lace Mini Skirt Design

Source of wonderful design and idea for your lace mini skirt!

Wearing a mini skirt can have a sexy and stylish outcome if done the right way and in the right places. The idea is about looking good, but not vulgar or offensive. You should think in advance how you would react or feel if people look at your legs. Some fashionistas have stated that mini skirts, like bras, are adored by men more than women. If you feel fine and comfortable in your mini skirt, you will most likely look fabulous. Although the mini skirt is an essential part of street fashion, especially to the young generation, this outfit is not appropriate for all occasions and ages. Mini skirts are principally not acceptable in offices, churches and weddings. If you must wear a short skirt to such events, you can fashion your mini by use of tights or leggings underneath. However, too short might not be acceptable. Wear your mini skirt to above knee. Analysts have said that miniskirts are becoming more popular owing mainly to the discovery of better skin-care products.

Before you consider wearing a mini, take good care of your leg skin. Shave or wax if you have to. But most importantly, exfoliate and moisturize your legs regularly. Fabric ruffles can be a great way to lengthen your miniskirt hemline. Here are the steps to make your own lace mini skirt with fabric ruffle.

- Recycle scrap fabric from a favorite old garment.

- Bring your miniskirt, fabric, common pins and matching thread to the sewing machine.

- Cut the fabric to make the ruffle.

- Cut your fabric three to five inches in width. Three inches will result in a one-inch ruffle. Five inches will result in a three-inch ruffle. These measurements are fairly approximate.

- Cut the length of your fabric one and a half to two times the width of your miniskirt. One and a half in length will create a slightly gathered ruffle. Two times in length will create more gathers.

- Place pleats equidistantly across the top of the length of the fabric. Fold fabric over once to create a pleat. Hold each pleat in place with a common pin.

- Gather the ruffle. Place a loose running stitch along the top of the length of the fabric. Pull on the thread to gather the fabric.

- Stitch the three remaining edges of the ruffle. Turn the fabric over twice to create a quarter-inch hemline.

- When you pin the ruffle to the hemline of your miniskirt, bring the two ends of the ruffle together to form an open slit.

- Place the slit at the center or off-center of the front of the miniskirt. Place the slit to the side of the skirt. Align the slit with the side seam of your miniskirt. Place the slit at the center of the back of the miniskirt.

- Stitch the ruffle to the miniskirt. Using scissors, cut the hem off your miniskirt. Sew the two pieces together, leaving a half-inch seam allowance.

- Iron the miniskirt. Iron the inner seam allowance towards the waistband of your miniskirt.

If fabric is prone to fray, place a zig zag stitch along the edge of the fabric, prior to stitching a seam. Add a pocket to the back of the miniskirt. Using a seam ripper, remove an old pocket from the skirt and replace it with a cute, colorful pocket that matches or contrasts what you’ve applied to the hemline.
