The thousand and one nights is one of the most important and influential works of universal literature. This is a compilation of tales and legends of Hindu, Arabic and Persian origin, of which there is no definitive text, but multiple versions. King Schahriar, after suffering the infidelities of his wife, decides to marry a young virgin every day which is executed the next morning to avoid any other betrayal. To prevent all the girls of the kingdom from dying, the young Scherezade volunteers to marry the monarch, and uses her cunning to propose a pact through which she cannot be executed until she has finished telling him a story. The stories that compose it will last over a thousand and one nights, and will eventually captivate the monarch and deter him from his cruel enterprise.
