Maptology

Simple Location Sharing

Maptology enables you to share your location with your friends. No need for accounts, no ads, completely free*. Give it a try!

For location sharing, you do not need to sign up for an account and your friend does not need to install the Maptology mobile app. Instead, you simply generate a sharing link using your app and send the link to your friend (e.g. via email, messenger, social network, etc.).

By clicking the link, your friend will be redirected to the Maptology web application which shows your current location and an optional message and destination on a map. If your friends are using the Maptology mobile app, they can also use the app to store the link and view your location without going through a web browser.

To protect your privacy, you can configure an expiration time for your sharing links, and you can pause the sharing of individual links or all links at any point in time.

If you decide to create an account, you can configure the Maptology web service to automatically track visits to your favorite places. If you do so, you can use the Maptology web application to view your places, visits and device location history. Of course, you can export your visits and places whenever you want.

* Maptology is the result of a student project of the Networked Embedded Systems group at the Universität Duisburg-Essen. When installing the app, we kindly ask for your permission to use your anonymized location data for our research. If you opt in, we get access to your data in return for operating the service. However, if you do not opt in, it will be completely free with no strings attached.
