Masjid Al-Aqsa is an architectural structure considered sacred by Muslims and believed to be the first qibla of Muslims.

Masjid Al-Aqsa is located in the Old City, east of Jerusalem, in the area known as the Hill of the Temples (Morya). The size of this area is approximately 144 acres, and it hosts many works of art, the number of which reaches two hundred. The sacred rock on which the Dome of the Rock was built is stated as the highest point of this hill.

Solomon's temple was completed in 957 BC during the reign of King David's son Solomon. On the other hand, Nebuchadnezzar had the structure destroyed in 586 BC, along with the kingdom, and took the Jews captive to Babylon. II. In 538 BC, Cyrus allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. The Second Temple, an unpretentious structure, was also destroyed by the Romans in AD 70, and only the part on the west side, which is called the "Wailing Wall" today, remains. Al-Aqsa Mosque, known today as the Al-Aqsa Mosque, is considered a basilica built by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I on the ruins of the Temple of Solomon. The Umayyad caliph I. Walid (705-715) had the building completely renovated with a major repair. Masjid Al-Aqsa was given to this structure by Abdulmalik bin Mervan for political purposes against the Abbasids.

The territory of the Temples and the Temple of Solomon is the subject of contention between Jews and Muslims. The "temples district" structures, whose details and history are probably well known by the local people, are not known to most Muslims but are used in legendary narratives such as suspense stone and ascension. For example, Masjid Al-Aqsa shows often use Dome of the Rock, which includes the Sacred Rock, which the Jews probably used as an altar or sacrificial place, some 60 years after the death of Muhammad, by the Umayyad caliph Abdulmalik b. Marwan built it between the years 687-691. Archaeological excavations are continuing in the region by the State of Israel.
