About 3 years ago, I received a short email from editor Bernania Deborah from New York City. (It was my first semester teaching in Helsinki, and I was working on a little biog Taught by Finland.) Deborah wanted to know if I had ever thought about writing a book. I haven't!

I am very grateful that Deborah Malmud had confidence, from the start, that I would be able to write Teach Like Finland. I am grateful to the rest of the Norton team for the world-class assistance they provided throughout this project.

In addition, I am grateful to Pasi Sahlberg who, since my first semester teaching in Helsinki, has encouraged me to continue writing about Finnish education from a foreigner's perspective; I am very happy because he was willing to write the introduction to this book. I am grateful for my former colleagues and students at Ressu Comprehensive School, where I had 2 enjoyable years of work. While writing this book, I had many conversations with Finnish educators from other schools, and I am grateful for their willingness to talk with me.

Before teaching in Helsinki, I was mentored by several talented American educators. Many thanks to Brian, Henry, Joana, Kathy, Linda Lue, Lisa, Steven, and Tricia. Besides that, I would like to express my gratitude to my wife Johanna and our children Misaiel and Adalia, their love really gives me happiness. And in the end, I thank God for His good plan.

Hopefully the material content of this application can be useful for self-introspection and better improvement in everyday life.
