"Just as We sent you a Messenger among you who recited Our verses to you and purified you and taught you the Book and wisdom, and taught you what you did not know." (Qs. al-Baqarah: 151).

"Verily, the person who purifies the soul is lucky, and the person who pollutes it is actually a loser." (Qs. Asy-Shams: 9-10).

Reading the verse above, it is clear that purifying the soul is something that is important in the life of a human being. A clean soul will produce clean behavior as well, because it is the soul that determines whether an action is good or bad.

The meaning of Tazkiyatun Nafs in terms is purification of the soul from all diseases and defects, realizing various stations for it, and making asthma' and shifts as its morals. The soul can become pure if we perform various acts of worship (eg prayer, infaq, fasting, pilgrimage, dhikr, and reciting the Qur'an) as perfectly and adequately as possible.

This book is the essence of the book Ihya' Ulumuddin by al-Ghazali, which was compiled by Sa'id Hawwa. In his time, al-Ghazali faced a situation of mental poverty from the souls of Islam, so that the publication of this book can contribute ideas and enthusiasm for all of us in cleansing our souls.
