Shrek in mod is a huge green ogre (a cannibal-giant from Western European fairy tales), who lives alone in a swamp in the vicinity of the city-state of Dulok, inhabited by people, animals, dolls, etc. from different European fairy tales and legends (e.g. Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio, three blind mice from an English children's folk poem).
