Sacrifice, which in Arabic is udh-hiyah (ةيحض�ا) is livestock that is slaughtered on the day of 'Idul Adha and Tasyriq day in order to draw closer to Allah, because of the arrival of these holidays (Al-Wajiz, p. 405 and Sahih Fiqih Sunnah II:366)

The Virtue of Sacrifice

Slaughtering sacrifices is a pious deed that has enormous virtues. Mentioned in the hadith, from 'Aisyah radhiyallahu'anha, she narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said:

"The children of Adam do not perform any deed on the day of Nahr (Eid al-Adha) which is more beloved by Allah than giving blood (qurban), so you should feel happy about it." (HR. Tirmidhi no. 1493)
