About Pastamizer

Wondering how to measure pasta? Optimize with Pastamizer!

Pastamizer optimizes how you measure spaghetti. Ever wrapped your hand around a bunch of uncooked spaghetti and wondered “Am I making too much?” or “Is this enough?” Now you can take that bunch in your hand and plop it on top of the circle that Pastamizer automatically creates for you, based on exactly what you need. First select the number of people, the type of pasta (e.g. spaghetti, angel hair, etc.) your hunger level, and--presto! the Pastamizer algorithm does all the work. All you need to do after is fill in the perfectly optimized circle with a bunch of pasta. There are many advantages:

* Accurate to the spaghetto! Pastamizer measures the exact amount of pasta accurate to the spaghetto (an individual strand of spaghetti)

* Saves you TENS of CENTS!! No more strands, or piles, of unneeded pasta stuck to your colander. The typical person throws out about 5-10% of pasta after cooking. That is about 7 to 14 cents per box of pasta given the average US price per pasta at $1.45/pound

* Decreases landfill waste and carbon footprint! Pastamizer could save an estimated 90,000 to 180,000 tons of landfill material annually given worldwide pasta consumption is about 6 billion pounds of dried pasta per year, of which 60% is long pasta such as spaghetti/angel hair/fettuccine. Carbon footprint reduction is even more dramatic considering not just food waste decomposition gases, but also agricultural energy/water/fertilizer, transportation energy and packaging material manufacturing

Pastamizer’s software includes sophisticated algorithms and experimental evidence to measure the exact amount of pasta including:

* Smart calculations depending on the type of long pasta (e.g. spaghetti vs. angel hair vs. fettuccine) that accounts for packing density variation

* Experimental measurements of pasta surface density of different pasta types accurate to 0.1 gram and 0.4 millimeters

* Equations that draw the exact circumference of a cylinder of pasta accurate to a single pixel utilizing pi to 15 decimal places

Pastamizer is optimized for different devices. Every model of smartphone/tablet/desktop monitor has a different screen width and resolution. Pastamizer solved this non-trivial problem:

* For popular smartphones/tablets, the software automatically identifies the device’s specifications ensuring that the pasta circle sizes are accurate

* For unknown devices and desktop monitors, the software supports manual calibration accurate to a single pixel

You won’t go hungry when using Pastamizer:

* The portion size is set to a realistic 114 grams (4 ounces) – what a typical person would eat as a main course - not an unrealistic government mandated “serving size” which is only 2 ounces, or half the amount a normal person would consider a proper amount of pasta

* The software includes a hunger adjustment factor so you can increase the portion size depending on your hunger level The software also includes an adjustment factor for kid sized portions

* I’ve also written some 5 minute sauce recipes you can make quickly while your pasta is boiling

* Suitable for Pastafarians! Can be used for Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster rituals and holidays
