PEUBI (General Indonesian Spelling Guidelines) Fourth Edition by Ezroq Developer

Indonesian has developed very rapidly as a result of advances in science, technology, and art. Its use is also increasingly widespread in various fields of use, both orally and in writing. Therefore, we need reference books that can be used as guidelines and references for various Indonesian language users, especially in the use of written language, properly and correctly.

In this regard, the Agency for Language Development and Development, Ministry of Education and Culture, issued General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling. This guide was developed to improve the General Guidelines for Enhanced Indonesian Spelling (PUEYD). This guide is expected to accommodate the rapid development of the Indonesian language.

Hopefully, the issuance of the General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling, directly or indirectly, will speed up the orderly process of speaking Indonesian so as to strengthen the function of Indonesian as the state language.

Improvements to the Indonesian spelling have been made by the Language Development and Development Agency, Ministry of Education and Culture. These improvements resulted in a text which in 2015 was determined to be the Regulation of the Ministry of Education and Culture Number 50 of 2015 concerning General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling.

Judging from the history of its composition, since the regulations for spelling the Malay language with Latin letters were established in 1901 based on the draft Ch. A. van Ophuijsen with the help of Engku Nawawi with the titles Soetan Ma'moer and Moehammad Taib Soetan Ibrahim, has made improvements to the spelling of various names and forms.

The preparation of these guidelines cannot be separated from the hard work and contributions of various parties. Therefore, our appreciation and gratitude goes to all experts and linguists, policy makers at the ministry level, and the community who have worked together to realize the formulation of the General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling.
