About Leaders and Leadership in the Qur'an, a Hermeneutical Study

Leadership is one aspect that is considered very important in Islam. This can be seen from the many verses and hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad SAW which discuss this. This is understandable, because leaders are one of the factors that have a huge influence on the life of a society.

In the Islamic religion, all issues relating to human life have very clear and detailed rules.

For example, there are rules (syariat) regarding how to purify (istinja') from uncleanness when defecating/urinating and purifying from hadats (farting, bathing junub). Likewise, manners ('adab) when sneezing, eating, drinking, sleeping, defecating and so on.

Even though this concerns matters whose impact is very individual. Because it is very logical that in matters that are bigger and have wider impacts, Islam is also very concerned.

For example, about leadership. This is because this aspect of leadership has an extraordinary and enormous impact on the lives of all the people (ummah) in a country. Based on a search of the verses of the Qur'an, the term leadership refers to four terms, namely caliph, imam, guardian, and ulul amri.

This book comprehensively discusses the terms leader and leadership in the Qur'an in hermeneutical analysis. It is called comprehensive, because it is analyzed as deeply as possible from authoritative sources, both from the Al-Qur'an and in tafsir books.

Hopefully this book can provide broader insight and contribute thought to readers, especially those interested in interpretive studies. In a political context, it is hoped that this book can correct the misunderstandings of most Muslims, especially about choosing, obeying and impeaching leaders. Moreover, the political years that will soon come are the right moment to reflect back on how the Koran talks about ideal leadership.

Hopefully the material content of this application can be useful for self-introspection and better improvement in everyday life.
