How to Pray in Spiritual Warfare
Praying in the Spirit is simply the result of our relationship with God, a grounded conversation grounded in his word. Paul identified the word of God as the sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17), so praying in the Spirit is prayer that comes from understanding his word. As we read the word, the Spirit prompts us to pray. Praying in the Spirit is therefore not a strange and mystical experience, but rather praising, thanking and asking God for things that are in accordance with the words of Scripture, which the Spirit himself inspired.
Lord Jesus, evil is such a harsh word, yet Your Word frequently uses it to describe the opposite of good. As we are all capable of sinning, ask for your protection from those who call good evil and evil good. Protect us from those who plot against justice and from those who turn the truth into lies to accomplish their evil intentions. May your angels always hover nearby to eradicate fear and fight against the dark and spiritual forces we cannot see. Help us to cast off every imagination and every thought that our enemy tries to use to exalt himself against You.
One of the things that constantly amazes me is that God, who could with the blink of an eye or the flick of a finger send all of Satan and all his hordes out of the world and away - instead of doing this - employs human agents to wage war against them and fight them in order to achieve victories. And everyone knows how to say on this subject that, in his unfathomable wisdom, more glory will return to him and more joy will return to you by participating in this triumph.

We found the believer's warfare prayer many years ago, when our children were young, hidden at the back of a book on Christian education. The prayer was written by Victor Matthews, emeritus professor of theology at Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary.
Whenever life felt heavy, when we got a glimpse of the spiritual battle around us, we pulled out that prayer, prayed it out loud, sometimes every day for weeks, until the darkness receded and the burden is lightened. Heavenly Father, open your eyes to see how great you are and how full your provision is for this day. Grateful that the victory which the Lord Jesus Christ won for me on the cross and in his resurrection has been given to me and that I am seated with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. take your place with Him in heaven and recognize by faith that all evil spirits and Satan himself are under His feet. Declare therefore that Satan and his wicked spirits are subject to me in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
