Ruqyah: healing of an illness by reciting verses from the holy Qur'an, or prayers to Allah.

The scholars have agreed that ruqyah is permissible if it meets 3 requirements:

- Ruqyah with the word of Allah or with His names and attributes,

- Ruqyah in Arabic or if it is not in Arabic then the meaning must be understood

- You should believe that ruqyah does not have an effect by itself but returns to Allah

Some scholars are mistaken and believe that ruqyah with anything as long as it is useful is permissible. And this has been denied by Ibn Hajar, because the Prophet ﷺ stated "There is nothing wrong with ruqyah as long as there is no shirk in it".

And if the ruqyah is in a language that is not understood then it is feared that it contains or could lead to shirk.
